SITARA, the first Indian Science, Indigenous Technology & Advanced Research Accelerator, aims to make India a Science Nation.
SITARA proceeds first of all from the need to accelerate high quality employment opportunities. There are many non-governmental bodies providing education & skilling to India’s underprivileged masses. But very few address the burning issue of where these educated youngsters will go to seek jobs.
SITARA therefore emphasises the urgency of capturing maximum value addition in advanced manufacturing in India to create millions of high-quality jobs.
At present we import all high value-added telecommunications, defence, aerospace, and electronics equipment, which is deleterious to national security and welfare.
We end up supporting high-tech ecosystems abroad and depriving our ecosystem of the multipliers generated by a high-tech manufacturing sector.
We are thus focused on creating an R & D intensive economy and a domestic, advanced manufacturing base which will generate massive multipliers and propel economic development on a new trajectory of sustained, equitable and employment generating growth.
GEOPOLITICAL POWER AND STRONG NATIONAL SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS
Our second goal is directed at redressing the lack of an informed discourse on the link between national scientific and technological prowess and geopolitical strength.
Surprisingly, practically no Indian Think Tank focuses on these foundational pillars of geopolitical strength.
This leads to a surreal disconnect in the discussion and practice of economic, scientific, technological, and foreign policy.
The result is a technologically dependent, consumption and services led economy - not the ideal profile for a modern, 21st century power.
SITARA will fill this void in intellectual discourse and work towards correcting these imbalances, creating a strong, indigenous and R& D intensive foundation for economic growth.
